Are We Worthy of Their Sacrifice?

memorial military veterans soldiers kia america country serve sacrifice patriot war wwii
We thank our Veterans, yet on this Memorial Day weekend it seems so hollow to me. Too many lives have been destroyed, disrupted, and changed forever. I have never really felt like it touched my family, yet yesterday I started thinking about my uncle, a man I never knew because he was killed in action fifteen years before I was born. He was a son, a brother, cousin and friend to many. A man missed by all who knew him. A man who was taken from his family too soon.
Americans are divided when it comes to war, but our troops need our support whether or not you agree with the battles. Our young men and women sign up for various reasons; for our country, family obligations, educational opportunities, and to travel. American troops should have the best weapons in the world, the best leaders in the world, and they should only have to answer to the leaders of our country, not the United Nations. God bless Army Spc. Michael New who was willing to fight and die for our country, but not for the UN. Our current administration has made fighting a war like playing Russian roulette. May God protect our soldiers, because our resident in the White House sure isn’t making sure they have what they need.
So, I wonder are we sacrificing enough for our country? Too many Americans are wrapped up in their lives and won’t get involved. I am speaking only to those that aren’t involved when I say, “You don’t have to wear a uniform and belong to the military to serve your country”. Patriots across this once great nation are working, some non-stop, some sporadically. The point is, We Are Americans. We need to stand up and fight for our country and for all those that went before us, that fought and died for us. Don’t let their sacrifice be in vain.
On this Memorial Day weekend don’t forget that it’s not about the first camping trip of the season, it’s not about the first big BBQ of the year, it’s about our military men and women that gave their best and paid with their lives. Remember them, and please don’t let them down. Ask yourself, “Are you worthy of their sacrifice?” If the answer is no, don’t get depressed, get active! There is no lack of issues that need American voters to pay attention. If nothing else, go to school board meetings, supervisor meetings, etc. if someone is watching they tend to follow the rules a little more closely.
America is blessed to have men and women dedicated and willing to serve our country. We thank them and their families.
